Dear Josh,
Before you read this, put on a Johnny Cash Record and get a glass of whiskey. If you don't have a record player, or a stash of whiskey, go out and get one, dammit. I thought I was raised better than this. While your out, pick up a cigar. You've been craving one anyway. Now then, here is what seem really important to the earlier version of yourself:

Remember your truck? Everyone told you it was junk. You saw the potential. Unfortunately, as it sits now, they are winning. It has cost an arm and a leg. I hope you still have it, but that seems too unrealistic. Either way, remember: They were wrong. You found the worth and the joy in it. Remember how they were right, too. It would have been easier to listen, and probably better.

Do you own a motorcycle? This is really important to your younger self. Own it before you are thirty. Ride it like you have a sense in the city, but find a long country road sometime and floor it. Find your limit.

Do you still smoke? Do you still drink whiskey? Do you still have the Gibson? Drive a manual? Listen to Bob Dylan? Read Hemingway and Whitman? If not, remember when you did.

Remember the man you wanted to be: Don't cuss in front of kids. Don't wear workout shorts when not working out. Find your own bar. Try new foods, but be a regular somewhere. Never cheat, with cards nor with your girl. Easy.

Good Luck,
Josh
